'Citizen Architect' Documentary Preview

Here's a trailer for the movie screened in class...the quiz can cover more than what you see in the YouTube video so review your notes...

Perspective Examples for Framework Projects

The images below are from various urban scale projects that rely on perspective renderings to explain proposed interventions.  You should be as detailed as possible when you explain your proposal but when working at the urban scale, traditional plans, sections, and elevations are usually not effective due to the variety of dynamic conditions of any site.  Abstract representation (diagrams, perspectives, mappings, etc) therefore play a key role in understanding the project.  Try renderings that portray parts of your site before and after.  If there are specific programs, land uses, and architecture that you want your project to induce, express them in your perspectives.

Wall Sections Examples for Studio

The examples chosen include a human scale figure and show the building material assembly.  They are not overly technical and for the wall sections of your design a few notes are enough, the entire drawing does not need to be annotated.  Often the wall section is a zoom in on one of the areas shown in the building sections, but drawn with more detail.

Start by selecting the part of your project you would like to show in greater detail and print it at 1:50 scale to see the appropriate amount of information to show.  It is not about showing every nut and bolt.  The 1:50 detail does not have to be a "wall," one of the examples shown is where an exterior spaces meets the water.

'Play For All' Design Competition

Go Play!, an international non-profit that promotes the importance of play for children in the developing world, is sponsoring a design competition to promote innovate playground designs. The winning design will be built for a school for refugee children along the border of Thailand and Myanmar.  On top of that, there is a 30,000 Baht first prize and no registration fee.

Register your team by November 17 and the entry is due January 3.  Visit the competition website for site info and submission requirements.  This is a great chance for you to add another project to your portfolio during your winter break and put your design skills toward good use for others!

Staging Ground : The Agency of Infrastructure

For your work on the San Saeb canal, see if you can be inspired by the visualizations Andrew TenBrink created for his 2010 thesis work for a Master of Landscape Architecture II degree at Harvard GSD.  All of the perspectives/plates from his blog (link below) can be enlarged.

Visual Complexity

visual complexity exhibits a multitude of examples for representing complex networks.  Consider how the networks and data you are trying to express about the canal piers can be expressed most clearly through similar mappings and diagrams
